Are you the entrepreneurial type?

Are you the right personality for entrepreneurship ?
Does it really matter ? Yes, it does.
There are few things which no school or college will teach. We all know that. It is part of personality.
As an entrepreneur, I face some personality challenges almost every day. With efforts, I have been changing myself and lot more needs to happen. Well, personality changes are also one of the hardest changes to make. Hopefully, you will agree! One has to accept that it is slow ( but constant ) process. Fun part is that I have slowly learnt to enjoy the process of change !
In my opinion, following is partial list of personalty elements, which are important for an entrepreneur. I will be writing more about this topic in future from different aspect of personality match/mis-match for an entrepreneur and how we can change it. It will involve my own experiences too.
Entrepreneur personality traits
- Excellent salesman ( Sell, Sell, Sell ! )
- I couldn’t stress more on this point. I plan to write much more about this single point and I will be rather sharing my own experiences too. For right now, let’s say you NEED to be able to “sell” before you can call yourself an “entrepreneur”. Period.
- Not afraid to fail & Not afraid to learn
- Failing is painful. But learning from failure is useful. Both go hand-in-hand, isn’t it ?
- (Calculated) risk taker
- No risk, No returns. Very simple and Clear, right ?
- Not having “do-it-all-alone” mind-set
- You need buddies to succeed. Right team can make ALL the difference, one can imagine ! Trust me on this one.
- If you want to “Walk alone”, entrepreneurship is not the road you should take. Loner can do research, but can not make a great company. Great company takes a team ! You can be the leader, but you will need a strong team to fight the battle. One also needs to make sure that strong team will remain strong and be with you to really succeed !
- Being Unorthodox
- Entrepreneur does not always follow “books”
- Being innovative and thinking differently about solving a problem is sign of a good entrepreneur.
- Quick thinker and executioner
- Being quick is necessary in many situation, if not always ! It depends on type of business or phase of growth one is in. I am very positive that at some point, every entrepreneur will come across a situation, where quick decision will make a turning point in company/business.
- Forward thinking
- No one can argue with that, right ?
- There are success stories every day. When we just think that everything to-be-invented has been invented by someone and all possible innovations have been also thought-out, Just then you hear of another success story with great idea, product or service and great execution ! And then we wonder - Damn ! why didn’t I think of that.
- Well, it is still not late ! Future still exists and it is not end of world ( yet ! )
Let’s say, after 10 years, someone will be still making difference. Question is will it be you or me ? It can be — Start thinking now. What will world need after 10 years. What problem will exist after some time, which will require solution. You gotta be thinking forward. - Future holds many success stories. Will yours be there ? Look ahead. Think ahead. Search for it. You will find it. I am determined to find mine !
Actually, each of above point deserves separate discussion. This is very quick summary of what I want to express. I will be writing my thoughts and experiences regarding all points as time permits.
Did I miss any point or aspect ? Please, feel free to add yours.

One more point I would add: Networking.
Invest in people. Not just who seem important from YOUR perspective at this moment. You never know whose help you may need.
Smart people never burn the bridge.
Never give up the efforts.Future is full of opportunities. You just explore them by positive approach.
You learn more by failures.Consider failure as a waiting success with your next effort.
Rucha,
Well said. Excellent point. you mentioned a point, which I hold very close to my heart. This is absolutely true. By my saying that “entrepreneur don’t walk alone”, I actually meant same thing. Business actually depends on networking and relation. One may agree, in business, technology may make up upto 20%, rest will be relation, people and marketing !
You gotta be “People” person. Investment in right people will make a person from zero to hero and company from start-up to all-time favorite blue-chip.
BTW, it is also one of the toughest and complex thing to do since humans are much more complex then machines
